Arts Cafe Events for Summer 2008

On the last Saturday of every month (excepting holidays), we host exhibition openings, talks by visiting artists, free taster sessions, portfolio sessions, and screenings of new video works. Arts Cafe events are free and open to everyone. The Arts Cafe programme is supported by Awards for All.

Exhibition Opening - 'Corrina and Anna' - Sabine Bungert
Since 1994 Sabine Bungert has been running a long-term photo project. She takes portraits of Corinna (34) and her daughter Anna (13) in a strictly documentary mode in front of a white blank background, to detach them from their social surroundings and focus entirely on mother and daughter providing an undisturbed and straight view for the beholder.
Sabine will be here to open her exhibition and talk about her work.

3pm to 4pm
Film premieres - 'Voices in the Park - Kendra' and 'Cycling to Mulheim'
The first showing of two short documentaries made by DMG about Darlington people.

photoNorth Portfolio Session
These bi-monthly portfolio sessions with photoNorth provide a forum for photographers to bring their work into the gallery for a friendly and constructive feedback. Open to photographers for all ages and abilities.

Big Snap Launch
Darlington's premier photography competition and exhibition is back for its third year even bigger and better. DMG plan to show twice as amany pictures as last year in the spring of 2009 in the Decisive moment Gallery. This year's theme is: Darlington People and Places. Come along to the launch and find out about it!

Exhibition Opening - 'Iran: Sisters in Chanel and Chador' - Newsha Tavakolian
Newsha tavakolian's vibrant images shatter our media's popular portrayal of muslim women. Programmed as part of the Tees Valley Photography Festival 2008, this exhibition will be shown for the first time in the UK at DMG's Decisive Moment Gallery.
