'In Vino Veritas' by Lucy Carolan
With ‘In Vino Veritas’, Decisive Moment Gallery hosts its second show addressing issues around organic farming, and its third exhibition with an international focus. But ‘In Vino Veritas’ also has a local flavour. In September/October 2005, Darlington based photographer Lucy Carolan produced a photographic documentary on organic wine production in the Loire Valley region of France. “While there’s still a small number of wine makers who hand pick their crop, few also practice sustainable farming methods and even less dare employ authentic traditional methods to vinify. In the Touraine I found François Blanchard, a young farmer whose organic principles have lead him to favour old-fashioned wooden hand presses to extract the juice from white grapes, tread the red by foot, and add only the most natural products in minimal quantities to his wine during fermentation”.
